The NCTC volleyball team competed at the McCook Invitational Tournament on August 29th & 30th.
On day 1, the lady lions took on nationally ranked Indian Hills Community College, falling in three sets. Top performers for the match included sophomore opposite Kassidy Paul, who hit .500 with 5 kills and 0 errors. Sophomore Joy-Lece Bateman alsoadded 3 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. For the second match of the day, the lady lions bounced back to take the sweep over Lamar Community College. Sophomore Emarei Brandon led the way offensively putting up 10 kills, 2 aces, and 7 digs. Metzler was next up with 6 kills and a .417 hitting percentage, along with 6 digs. The freshmen setting duo of Alayna Francis and Alexis de Vries both added 14 assists and 5 digs each.
On day 2 of the tournament, the team played two competitive matches, falling in 5 set to both. In the first match with Seward County Community College, freshman libero Alison Figueroa led defensively with 16 digs. Freshman Isabel Gabbert contributed 9 assisted blocks and a single block, along with Bateman who who had 8 assisted blocks. Freshman standout Denim Crow made her debut for the lions, with 8 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs and a block, followed by Gabbert with 6 kills and Metzler with 5. In the second matchup of the day, the lions faced Butler Community College. Standouts for the match included freshman Kate Walraven, who hit .500 with 4 digs, followed by Bateman, who hit .444 with 5 kills. Francis added 20 assists to her count, with de Vries adding 13 more. Figueroa also contributed another 15 digs on the match.
Next up for the lady lions are two conference matches. The team faces conference rival & NJCAA #2 Weatherford College on September 2nd at home, and SWCC on September 3rd in Terrell. Looking ahead, the lions will be hosting the NCTC Invitational Tournament on September 5th and 6th at the Lion Fieldhouse.
