[Baseball] Lions Baseball Concludes Fall Reading Program

Lions baseball has been reading to Cooke County schools for the past six years. Every fall, starting in late October and finishing in early December, the Lions' players visit and read to different elmentary schools. This year, the team read to the kindergarten class at Edison Elementary in Gainesville and to first graders in Valley View.

At the end of the reading program, each class is presented a team signed baseball and a signed baseball calendar of the team.

[Baseball] Lions Baseball Conclude 5th Annual Halloween Contest

Each year as part of the Lions Fall competition is a halloween contest. This was the fifth year in which the players are divided into two teams and they compete in practice, games, classroom, and weight room. A Halloween contest is also included.

This year's winner was the Cardinals with their imagination and creativity.

The Lions end the competition with their annual Junction World Series.

Lady Lions scheduled to play Temple College in opening round of the Regional Volleyball Tournament. Match time is 10:00am on Saturday, November 3rd at Brookhaven College in Carrolton.

[Baseball] Lions Have Three Participate in TX/NM JUCO All Star Game

The Lions' baseball team had three named to the Texas/New Mexico JUCO All-Star game this past weekend. Lucas Corrick is a returning pitcher who finished with a 4-1 record with two saves and a team best 3.25 ERA. Mike Chamberlain, a first baseman, finished in the top 5 of the conference with RBIs and missed only one game last year. Wade Stramp was an All-Conference player last year, but was not able to play due to an injury.

The All-Star game is played in front of over fifty four-year and professional scouts from all over the country. Corrick pitched one inning giving up one hit and no runs. Chamberlain had one hit and a RBI in his action.

[Softball] Fuddruckers Junior College All-Star Games

Four Lady Lions from last season were selected to the Fuddruckers Junior College All-Star Games being held this weekend at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They will be competing with the best Junior college athletes in Texas and New Mexico and will be showcased in front of several 4 year universities for the chance to further their softball career. Best of luck ladies!

[Baseball] Former Lions Zach Stewart Flirts with Perfect Game

Former Lion Zach Stewart threw a perfect game through seven innings when he gave up a double in the 8th inning. He finished with a one-hit shut-out complete game for the White Sox. He was an All-Region pitcher for the Lions during the 2005-06 seasons. Click here for more:

[Baseball] Former Lion Earns First MLB Win

Former Lion pitcher Zachary Stewart picked up his first win last night for his new team Chicago White Sox. Stewart was traded last week from the Toronto Blue Jays in a trade deadline deal for Edwin Jackson and other major leaguers. It has been a crazy thirty days for Stewart who made his MLB debut, sent back down to the minors three starts later, traded at the deadline, and won his first major league game. "I like his attitude and his presence on the mound," Sox Manager Guillen said. "He's got a pretty good makeup. Hopefully, he'll keep it up like that."

Will Stewart get another opportunity to start?

"The way he threw the ball, he should," Guillen said.
