
North Central pushed their Conference win streak to three games with its doubleheader sweep of Grayson College on Wednesday. The Lions defeated Grayson College 4-3 and 11-8. On Saturday the Lions split with Weatherford College losing 3-2, but won the second game 2-1.
In game one on Wednesday, the Lions had only one hit and two baserunners the entire game going into the 6th inning. They were down 1-0 at that point. Jon McManemin led off with a single and moved to second on Adam Kirsch's single to left. Daniel Sciantarelli doubled both runs home with his shot to center. After Will Klausing was hit by a pitch, Jake Arrington delivered a two-run single to left for the 4-1 lead going into the last inning. After a couple of walks and a double, closer Ross Goebel got the last two guys to pop out to pick up his third save in conference play.
Starter Jamen Parten picked up the win going six innings allowing seven hits, one walk, and one run.
In game two, the Lions got off to an early lead. With two outs, Adam Kirsch singled and moved to third on Daniel Sciantarelli's double. Will Klausing's single to right with two outs brought home both runners. Grayson took the lead in the top of the 3rd with three runs.
With a 3-2 score, the Lions responded with three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Three straight singles to start the inning by Adam Kirsch, Daniel Sciantarelli, and Will Klausing loaded the bases. Garrett Harris pushed two across with his two-run single. Jake Arrington drove one in with an infield ground out. Grayson cut the score to 5-4 with a run in the 4th inning.
Again, the Lions fought back with two more in the bottom of the inning. Cody Bishop reached base and moved to second on a stolen base. Stewart Hill sacrificed him to third. With a walk to Adam Kirsch, Daniel Sciantarelli laced a ball to right for a sacrifice fly. Will Klausing picked up another run for the Lions with his single to center.
The Lions broke open the game with four runs in the 5th. Jake Arrington led off with a single and moved to second on Reggie Rodriguez's sacrifice bunt. Cody Bishop followed with a double to move the runners to second and third. Stewart Hill's ground out scored one. Adam Kirsch drove another run in with a single. Daniel Sciantarelli delivered a two run blast to left for a 11-4 lead.
Grayson got two back in the 6th on a homerun which forced the Lions to take out starter Brett Able. He finished up allowing six runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Cameron Brewer came in relief to stop the momentum. He did not allow the two inherited runs to score in the 6th. He did not allow a run in the next two innings. They did not score a run off of him until two outs in the 9th. Ross Goebel picked up his second save by getting the tying run at the plate to fly out to end the game.
On Saturday, the Lions played Weatherford College losing the first game but rebounded to win game two. The Lions were down 3-0 going into the 6th inning. Daniel Sciantarelli doubled and scored on Garrett Harris' single to left. The Lions loaded the bases in the 7th, but could only manage a sacrifice fly by Adam Kirsch which was one run too short.
Starter Kyle Felts was the hard luck loser throwing a complete game and giving up three runs which were all un-earned.
Game two, the Lions took the lead in the 6th with a run. Stewart Hill walked to start the inning. He stole second and scored on Andrew Goodman's single to right. The Lions were tied up in the 7th on a two out bloop single to center. The Lions stranded six baserunners in the 7th and 8th innings, but finally broke through in the 8th. With three walks to load the bases, Adam Kirsch delivered the walk-off hit by pitch to win the game.innings
Starter Jordan Harrison pitched a good game going 7 2/3 allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven. Ross Goebel picked up the win in relief finishing the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
Daniel Sciantarelli led the offense the past four games with six hits, four doubles, one homerun, and five RBIs. Will Klausing and Cody Bishop both had five hits a piece in that same span.
The Lions will end their sixteen game homestand on Saturday. The Lions will host McLennan College for a doubleheader starting at one.
